Swooning over the set-design of Blake Edwards' "The Party"

Swooning over the set-design of Blake Edwards' "The Party"

A few years ago I was introduced to the Blake Edwards movie “The Party,” starring Peter Sellers. The movie is set in a 1960s party house with a sunken conversation pit, a mechanized bar, a giant birdcage, indoor waterways and an indoor/outdoor pool area.

Color Love :: Pink + Orange

Color Love :: Pink + Orange

My last post was about Patrick Gilles and Dorothée Boissier’s fabulous Paris apartment, which is in a very neutral palette of whites and greys so I’m feeling a little hungry for color today.  One of my favorite playful color combos is pink and orange.

Parisian Dream :: The Apartment of Patrick Gilles + Dorothée Boissier

Patrick Gilles and Dorothée Boissier's dreamy flat on Boulevard Malherbes in the 17th arrondissement in Paris has totally caught my eye. The 300 sq meter apartment was rich in 19th century Napoleon III details and is the epitome of classic Parisian architecture with large rooms and floor to ceiling windows. The couple painstakingly restored the gorgeous herringbone floors and amazing boisierie.

Cool Idea :: Removable Wallpaper

Cool Idea :: Removable Wallpaper

Do you love wallpaper but have commitment issues or live in a rental?  There is a solution and it’s removable wallpaper.  Do you remember that episode of Real Housewives of New York when Ramona tried to peel off a panel of the wallpaper in a show house in the Hamptons once she was told it was removable?  Hilarious and vintage Ramona, but I digress.

Cool Kitchen Idea :: Open Shelving

Cool Kitchen Idea :: Open Shelving

Open shelving in kitchens has become trendy over the last couple of years and I must admit, I’m a fan.  Open shelving gives you the option to show off all your dishware, glassware and serving pieces that are normally hidden behind closed doors. Open shelving can make a small kitchen seem bigger and can also heighten the space when there is no upper cabinet soffit to stop the eye from moving up.

A Handy Guide for Bedding

A Handy Guide for Bedding

I have a confession to make.  I’m a total bedding addict and am constantly changing up the look of my bed so I tend not to make a huge investment on the products I buy. I hit the discount stores like Home Goods or Tuesday Morning to score some good deals.  And then there is always the siren song of the bedding aisle at Target.  Someday down the line I’ll invest in some high quality sheets and have a custom duvet made, but until then it’s the discount stores for me.  A custom duvet for those handy DIY types probably isn’t a huge challenge, but I’m going to stick with the experts as I am not handy in the least {something I’ve finally admitted to myself after several false starts on DIY projects, but I digress}

Luxe Touch :: Upholstered Walls

Luxe Touch :: Upholstered Walls

Usually when someone says “padded room” you automatically think “insane asylum,” but that’s not always the case.  Like, for example, when you are talking about upholstered walls.  I was first introduced to upholstered walls when I visited the Paris apartment of a woman named Zou-Zou, whom I considered my French grandmother.  She was incredibly chic as was her apartment -- the walls of her foyer were upholstered in grey patent leather!  I tried to take pictures once, but they just didn't do the walls justice.
