Chanel No.5 and Place Vendôme

Who doesn’t know Chanel No. 5?  The iconic scent with top notes of neroli, ylang-ylang and aldehydes was designed as a “Woman’s perfume with a woman’s scent.”  The story goes that at the boutique at 31 rue Cambon, a shopgirl was always tasked with perfuming the entrance to the boutique and the staircase with Chanel No 5 before Mademoiselle Coco’s arrival.

The bottle stopper recalls the geometry and proportions of the famed Place Vendôme in the 1er Arrondissement in Paris.  Chanel lived at the Ritz for 37 (!!!) years, which overlooks the famous square (she didn’t live at her exquisite appartement above the boutique), so it should come as no surprise that the Place inspired her!

Just a little fun fact that the francophile in me couldn’t help but share.
