Rub-a-Dub-Dub :: Fabulous Bathroom Designs

A well-designed bathroom can be a refuge -- a place to escape after a long, hard day.  There isn’t much a nice long soak (or steam) can’t cure! A beautiful bathroom design also can make even the most mundane morning and evening routines a pleasure, why not be surrounded by beauty while you floss your teeth?

Hotel Love :: Hôtel Fabric

Hotel Love :: Hôtel Fabric

The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement in Paris is known for its bistros and bars.  Hotels?  Not so much.  But that changed with the opening of Hôtel Fabric, a 4-star boutique hotel located in an old, you guessed it, textile factory dating back to the Industrial Revolution.

Sound Like a Designer :: Greek Key

Sound Like a Designer :: Greek Key

The motif originated in Ancient Greece {thus the name, duh} and is an interlocking rectangular pattern made from one continuous line, also known as a “meander.”  One theory is that the motif is a representation of the mythical labyrinth that held the fearsome Minotaur, a creature with the head of a bull and the body of a man. The motif is also thought to represent unity and infinity.  In Ancient Greece the  pattern was featured on architectural friezes, pottery and bronze shields.  The pattern was later adopted by the Romans {as so much of Greek art and architecture was} and was seen on tiles, mosaics as well as architecture and later became an important element of the Neoclassical Style.

Color Love :: Gray + Yellow

Color Love :: Gray + Yellow

Gray and yellow is one of my favorite color combinations and it works in any style of decor, from the ultra-modern to the very traditional.  It was very trendy a couple of years ago, but I don’t really go in for trends -- if you like it, you like it, period.  Gray is timeless and can be mixed with any color. Go Wild :: Decorating with Animal Prints

Animal prints never seem to really go out of style.  They are incredibly versatile and work with pretty much any style of décor.  Animal prints can bring on the drama, but, amazingly enough, animal prints can be fairly neutral too when paired with other neutrals like browns and creams. My last post was about Patrick Gilles and Dorothée Boissier’s fabulous Paris apartment, which is in a very neutral palette of whites and greys so I’m feeling a little hungry for color today.  One of my favorite playful color combos is pink and orange.

Parisian Dream :: The Apartment of Patrick Gilles + Dorothée Boissier

Parisian Dream :: The Apartment of Patrick Gilles + Dorothée Boissier

Patrick Gilles and Dorothée Boissier's dreamy flat on Boulevard Malherbes in the 17th arrondissement in Paris has totally caught my eye. The 300 sq meter apartment was rich in 19th century Napoleon III details and is the epitome of classic Parisian architecture with large rooms and floor to ceiling windows. The couple painstakingly restored the gorgeous herringbone floors and amazing boisierie.

Shipping Container Homes Part Two

Yes, it’s another post on homes built from shipping containers, or “cargotechture” {a new term I came across while putting together these posts.}  My last post got rather long so I wrapped it up without including this amazing home in Brisbane, Queensland Australia and the home really is worth checking out.
